Hey sis,

Grab your coffee, tea, or drink of choice because I’ve been working on something I think we can all benefit from—how to make our homes feel like warm, fulfilling havens for our souls. Now, I adoooore a cozy, yet elegantly designed home and love the thrill of shopping to mix and match to create beautiful rooms, but this chat isn’t about just ‘having a cute setup’ or merely sticking to routines. The goal of creating a spirit-filled home is to create an enticing environment for flow—allowing every corner to be filled with love and good energy that is palpable and transforms our family’s daily lives.

1. Start the Day with Intention

First things first, starting the day off right is essential. Before you dive into your daily tasks, take a moment to STOP. Pause and set the stage for your day. Whether it’s gratitude reflections, setting your intentions, or listening to uplifting music, take the time to prepare yourself for a pleasant and successful day. You can even do this while still in bed to avoid distractions. I spend about 10 minutes each morning centering myself, whether through a meditation app, prayer (can be pre-written if necessary), or jotting down a few things I’m truly grateful for. Waking up and saying “thank You” really sets a positive tone of order, gratitude, and humility. It’s impossible to feel down and grateful at the exact same time. Use this hack to kick any morning blues and start your day right. For a comprehensive guide on morning routines, check out Morning Routine Mastery: 30 Key Habits For Success.

2. Embrace Mindfulness

Mindfulness… yeah, this term pops up in so many self-help blogs…but what really is it anyway? And is it really even necessary? What’s the big deal? Well, mindfulness is about being present in every moment, whether you’re working, taking a shower, washing dishes, or enjoying quality time with loved ones. It’s more than just meditation or stretching; it’s a way of fully experiencing the gift of life. Mindfulness helps reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional regulation. Next time you wash dishes, focus on the sensation of the water and the feel of the dishes in your hands. Notice the patterns in the soap bubbles. It might sound simple, but it can be a powerful way to practice mindfulness. For more tips on mindfulness, explore this guide on practicing mindfulness.

3. Create a Harmonious Environment

Have you ever noticed how much our surroundings affect our mood? I’ve been on an intense decluttering spree, purging what I don’t need or what has negative feelings attached to it–while surrounding myself with things that genuinely make me happy…beautiful photography, fresh flowers, soothing scents, meaningful artwork that makes me daydream, clothing that I feel good in–you name it. It’s amazing how much better it makes me feel! For decluttering tips, take a look at this article on minimalist living.Tip – Consider adding elements that uplift your spirit, like a small water fountain for soothing sounds or a salt lamp for a calming glow.

4. Encourage Open Communication

Communication is crucial. Initially, I was content thinking I had done enough in this area and didn’t need to put in more effort just to open myself up to possible complaining. I mean let’s be honest, some things may already be tough enough some days without inviting more issues. But why are the most successful companies so dedicated to hearing feedback from surveys to the point of even rewarding the participants with gifts, credits, and discounts? Data rules. Data changes things if you use it. In the case of the companies, the survey responses provide tools for improvement from the patrons that matter–the people who have demonstrated their interest by purchasing. In our families, open communication is creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable to share their thoughts and feelings by at least just talking and hearing it out–no opinions, judgment or votes unless solicited or absolutely warranted. Everyone needs safe outlets to verbalize thoughts and engage with others. This is how we grow together. In my house, I’ve been planning more game nights and long car rides…using environments that we like but also switching up the setting in case, for example, my daughter feels more comfortable in one over the other. So far, it’s really made a difference in how connected we feel as a family. Consider introducing a “talk jar” where family members can anonymously submit topics they want to discuss, making it easier to bring up sensitive subjects. You can even incorporate this in a family movie night. Although she doesn’t use her phone much (more tablet lol) I’ve also opened the lines of communication using texting as a judgment free zone, telling my daughter, “If you feel like you can’t talk face to face or if you feel you need to type it instead, send me a text saying anything and there is no judgment. You can let me know if you want me to just listen, give advice, or whatever else.”

5. Create a Sacred Office Space

Having your own little slice of zen can be a game-changer. I’ve carved out a cozy room in the house that’s just for me that doubles as my office. I selected it for the large windows and view of the outdoors when I pull back the curtains, but I also love that the curtains provide privacy and signals to me that I’m able to safely disconnect. Aaaannd there’s a bonus—Decorating!!! Pointing and using my Oprah voice, “You get to decorate, You get to decorate!” What better place to hold my business affairs than an area I’ve sanctified, cleared the energy from, and adorned? Having a sacred space to pray, worship, or retreat to when life gets chaotic allows me to show up more fully balanced and equipped. If you don’t have an entire room to spare, even a dedicated corner with a comfy chair, a small table, and some meaningful items can serve as your sanctuary. 6. Reflect Regularly

Reflection is one of the ways I’ve grown the most. Whether it’s brain dumping on a spreadsheet or piece of paper to label, see, and analyze thoughts and experiences, journaling through an app or physical journal, or having heart-to-heart conversations with family and friends, taking time to really think about life has helped me grow in ways I never expected. Reflection can help you process emotions, track progress, and make informed decisions. For the mental and emotional benefits of journaling, refer to Journaling: Mind and Body Benefits, Plus Prompts

7. Practice Acts of Kindness

Spreading kindness is a duty we should never forget—there’s nothing quite like it. Whether it’s within our own families or out in the community, doing good feels amazing for everyone involved—especially you. Find simple, practical ways to be kind every day, like delivering meals to home-ridden neighbors or letting a car merge in traffic. Kindness creates ripples of positivity that can transform lives. Consider starting a kindness journal where you log your daily acts of kindness, big or small, to remind yourself of the impact you’re making. 8. Cultivate Curiosity and Lifelong Learning

Staying curious and continuously learning is essential for personal growth and spiritual enrichment. Curiosity drives us to explore new ideas, challenge our perspectives, and keep our minds active. Did you know that engaging in lifelong learning can improve brain function, enhance memory, and even delay cognitive decline? Renewing my mind through the Bible and inspirational/educational podcasts, articles, and books keeps life interesting and fulfilling. If learning was a love language, it would be one of mine for sure! For inspiration, browse through interesting Ted Talks and find uplifting podcasts. Additionally, consider joining a local book club, taking up a new hobby, or enrolling in an online course to keep your curiosity alive and well. I’d love to hear what you’re reading and listening to!

Sending you love and light,
